Teeth whitening is a great dental treatment option for those who want to improve the appearance of their smile. Dr. Amanda Eschelbach teeth whiteningin Nicholasville, KY offers an in-office treatment that will show you results in just an hour’s time. The teeth become stained or discolored because of habits such as smoking and different foods and beverage.

About Teeth Whitening

Food becomes attracted to the enamel of the teeth after having certain foods and beverage. Some stains are very hard to solve on their own without the help of a Nicholasville family dentist and an in-office teeth whitening visit.

Professional teeth whitening is one of the safest ways to improve the color of your teeth. It’s important that a thorough dental exam is performed before tooth whitening is formed. For example, cavities need to be treated before teeth are whitened because the solution cannot pass through decayed areas. If you have tooth decay or even receding gums, whitening may make your teeth very sensitive. Please note that whitening also doesn’t work on crowns or veneers.

Whitening can be done in the office. A dentist typically first photographs your teeth first which helps them to monitor your progress. They will also ask questions about how the staining occurred. Next, your teeth will be cleaned to remove any bacteria or food that is built up on the teeth. After that is completed, the teeth whitening procedure begins. The teeth are prepared with a substance that protects the gums. A whitening agent is applied and a laser light is used to lighten the teeth.

If you are interested to find out what teeth whitening can do for you and your teeth, call Dr. Eschelbach in Nicholasville, KY today to schedule your appointment to discuss this safe procedure.

Weakened, broken or missing teeth can pose serious dental problems. Luckily, dental restorations like crowns and bridges can help crowns and bridgesprotect your teeth, replace missing teeth and restore the appearance of your smile. Learn more about crowns and bridges with Dr. Amanda Eschelbach in Nicholasville, KY.

What is a crown?
Dental crowns completely cover a tooth to protect and stabilize it while preserving its natural structure. Crowns are often used after procedures requiring large fillings like root canals to strengthen the tooth. Crowns can also accomplish other beneficial dental tasks, such as:

  • improving the appearance of a misshapen or discolored tooth
  • replacing a missing tooth as part of a dental implant
  • holding a dental bridge in place
  • restoring the biting surface of a worn tooth

What is a bridge?
Bridges replace a missing tooth which lies between two healthy teeth. Unlike a crown, the restoration consists of three prosthetic teeth in a row. Bridges use a dental crown on either side to permanently anchor onto the healthy teeth and bridge the gap between them. Bridges can also be removable. This style uses metal clasps rather than dental crowns to attach to the surrounding teeth.

Crowns and Bridges in Nicholasville, KY
Crowns and bridges are porcelain and handcrafted in a dental laboratory. Since the laboratory requires several weeks to create the restorations, most patients require two dental appointments about two weeks apart. Before placing the crown or bridge, your dentist will prepare the tooth on which the crown sits by removing small parts of enamel from its top and sides. This makes room for the crown and shapes the tooth into the perfect form to snugly fit inside of the dental crown.

Caring for Your Crown or Bridge
Crowns and bridges require the same care as your natural teeth. Brush and floss twice daily for at least two minutes and floss between each tooth at least once a day. Bridges sit on top of the gum line, meaning that patients should floss underneath the bridge using special threading floss to keep it clean and healthy. Be sure to see your dentist at least twice a year for regular examinations and cleanings.
